Our History

Jeff Asbell grew up around construction in Southwest Missouri. Over time he became highly skilled at operating heavy equipment and well known in the construction industry.

In 1995, he was working for the city of Joplin, MO, on a runway extension project at the Joplin Regional Airport. Though he was the highest paid city employee, he had bigger dreams. After completion of the project in 1996, he started his first company, Jeff Asbell Excavating & Trucking with a backhoe on loan and a single-axle dump truck. With his success, Jeff ventured into other industries including trucking, railroad, environmental, bulk lubricant distribution, and aviation. Today, what Jeff Asbell started has evolved into seven companies under one umbrella, Asbell Companies.

Tragedy struck on September 7th, 2013, when Jeff passed away in a boating accident. He was in the process of fulfilling a dream project, building race boats. His oldest son Jacob Asbell, who was running their environmental division, took over as president of the companies and continues to lead and carry on his father’s vision today.
